ORNITHOLOGY HEAVEN

While its fauna is remarkable, it’s birds that The Gambia is most renown for. With some 540 species, the abundance and diversity of the county’s winged life is ranked as one of the highest in the world. Places to spot species like the African Paradise Flycatcher, the Blue-breasted Kingfisher and the Red-billed Hornbill are the dedicated areas of Tanji Bird Reserve, Bijol Island, Bijilo Forest Park and Makasutu Forest, but also the banks of the River Gambia. In addition even the hotel garden is home to many exotic birds, while at the airport Hooded Vultures are soaring the sky and Village Weavers are building nests in the trees outside.
The best time to spot them is early morning, approaching them slowly and without making any sudden movement or loud noise.
