Measuring 470 kilometres from east to west with a maximum width of 80kilometres from top to bottom, The Gambia is one of the smallest countries onthe African continent covering a total of not more than 11,300 km2. Surroundedby Senegal on three sides, it coils inland like a tongue along the banks of theRiver Gambia. The land consists of dense mangrove swamps, savannahs andsandy soils on which peanuts, millet and maize are cultivated. It’s highest point ata mere 53 meter above sea level, The Gambia is as flat as your breakfast pancakes.
